On the island Kate and Sawyer find a waterfall and a small body of water. The two go for a swim and find some of the plane seats in the water with dead passengers still buckled in. Under one of the seats is a Halliburton briefcase that Kate wants. She refuses to tell him what is inside of the case so he takes it and leaves. Later, Kate sneaks into Sawyer’s tent and attempt to take the case but he catches her and the two struggle before she leaves empty handed.
Kate, in flashbacks, is shown to be in a bank applying for a loan. She is using an alias “Meg, Maggie, and Miss Ryan” while doing so. Three masked men enter the bank with intentions of robbing the bank. She is shoved to the ground and a man tells her he can stop them. He grabs one of the men and disarms him. Kate grabs the gun and the man tells her to shot the robber. She claims she can’t use a gun. One of the thieves takes Kate and goes into another room where the two kiss showing that Kate is in on the robbery.
After Boone calls Shannon useless Sayid asks her to help him with the maps he took from Rousseau. Shannon asks him is Boone put him up to it but Sayid tells her he didn’t. Meanwhile Sawyer is trying to open the case which amuses Michael and Hurley because they know how hard it is to open a Halliburton. When Sawyer throws the case from a tree onto some rocks below Kate easily sneaks in and takes the case. Sawyer gets it back and tells her he will give it back to her if she tells him what’s in it but she doesn’t. Kate goes to Jack and tells him the case contains weapons as it belonged to the US Marshall sitting next to her. She says the key is buried with him so they dig him up to get the key. In an effort to trick Jack, Kate tries to palm the key and tell him it isn’t there but he catches her sleight of hand.
Now with the key in hand, Jack goes to Sawyer for the case. He threatens to withhold antibiotics from Sawyer for the wound in his arm. Jack goes to the cave with the case and the key and opens the case. Inside Jack finds guns and a manila envelope. Meanwhile the translations that Shannon is giving to Sayid do not seem to make sense and she says she is useless and leaves. Elsewhere, is an attempt to boost Charlie’s spirit Rose sits down to talk to him. She says what happened to Claire isn’t his fault. She then tells him she knows her husband Bernard is still alive even though he was in the tail section when the plane crashed.
Back in the bank the man who kissed Kate smacks her across the face to make it look like they are not working together. He threatens to kill her unless the bank manager takes them to the cash vaults. In the vault one of the other robbers tells the manager the robbery was Kate’s idea. Kate shoots the felons and tells the manager to take her to safety deposit box 815. The safety deposit box is the real reason she is there. The manager opens the box and Kate removes the contents: a simple manila envelope. The same one Jack finds in the case.
Jack gives the envelope to Kate, and she opens it. Inside is a toy airplane. Jack asks her about it and she tells him it belonged to the man she loved. And killed. After she tells Jack this she breaks down crying. He is not sympathetic towards her. Jack takes the case and the guns and leaves Kate by herself. Back on the beach Shannon figures out that some of the notations are lyrics to La Mer which is the original French version of the song Beyond the Sea. Jack heads back towards the caves and glances at Kate who is sitting by the fire still crying. Kate begins to play with the toy plane.
