So when I began this blog a few weeks ago I had no idea it was part of a huge debate over what is sexist and what isn't. It would seem that the term "Manhole" has been deemed offensive by some groups. So much so that in some parts of the world they are no longer being called manholes. Here's a story from the Sacramento Sun:
Although on The Guide To Learning English says that the term is not sexist because it it not gender specific and should stay the way it is:
A manhole is the name for the hole in a city street that leads down to the underground water / sewage systems. The word has nothing to do with gender and can therefore stay as it is. (A story has some radical feminists want to replace the word manhole with person-hole. Although I have no evidence, I am sure that such rumors are put about by people who are against political correctness (PC) and want to bring the campaign for eliminating sexist language into discredit.)
'Manholes' Called Sexist, Become 'Access Chambers'
"It is our policy to use non-sexist language. The word manhole clearly defies it," said a spokesman for the Hackney borough council in east London.
So that was just the start of my investigation into the matter but I would imagine that some of you might wonder why this investigation began in the first place. Today I received a message from "a concerned WOMAN" on face book. Apparently she found this site after going to the face book page of my previous blog which was about LOST. So yeah, after she went out of her way to find me she sent me a message because as she puts it she is:
"concerned that in this ever-changing world the fact that it is no longer controlled by men should be pointed out and made sure to finally be able to be put to rest and made obvious that we are all equal in all parts of life and the world in this day and age it isn't too much to ask for"
I have several issues with this message:
1) She apparently searched me out on face book, then messaged me ( there isn't a privacy feature to block messages when you have a face book page; if they join the page they can message you - so I get the message weather she is a friend or not.) then she UN-joined the page. After that she also blocked me from sending her any messages as she also pointed out in her message.
2) Using a period once in a while won't kill you lady, you should try them every so often ... even if you don't get yours anymore.
3) If you are going to open something up for a discussion or debate you should at least wait for the rebuttal. I would like to rebut to you directly but i cannot because you stuck your tail between your legs and ran away. I call that being cowardly and you are an insult to women everywhere for being too afraid to say what you wanted to say but didn't have the cojones to stay and wait to hear what I had to say back to you. Screaming your opinion to me as you run away in fear of reprisals is a slap in the face of all of those women that fought for equal rights so many years ago.
4) Yes, I agree it is a reminder of the days when man ruled the world and it is because of this fact that I argue the name should stay.
With all of that in mind here is my rebuttal for all of those that would like to read it; I caution you though for here there be harsh language:
Dead Stupid Whore:
I call you that because as you have already figured out, I am a sexist. Even though women have played a much larger role in my life than men have. I was raised by them as a child and ever since I grew to adulthood, oh, I'm sorry to MAN-hood I have been trying to fuck them. As many as I can and as often as I can. It is what God, in HIS supreme wisdom put you all here for. Therefore, as you can tell, I know a lot about women. Not everything, dear no, who could ever claim that? You are correct in your statement that manholes are called that because the name dates back to when men ruled the world. As you also correctly stated the 19Th amendment to the constitution does indeed allow a woman to have her vote. The woman's suffrage movement ended up with the declaration that women were indeed equal to men and should be treated as such.
Thank you for the history lesson. Now let me give you one of my own. If you go back a little before the 19Th amendment we have something called the 18Th amendment which began prohibition in the country. That's right - no more alcohol. Then we made the 19Th amendment and right after that we had the 20Th and 21st amendments. The 20Th was about the beginning and ending of political terms in office blah blah blah whatever whatever whatever... but the one I want to get to is the 21st amendment which repelled prohibition. So here's a little time capsuled look at the woman's movement and where it fit into the thinking of our constitution:
"We're not gonna drink anymore!" -18Th amendment
"We're gonna let women vote now!" -19Th amendment
"Women can vote? Fuck we need to start drinking again!" -21st amendment
What I am trying to say is that there have been many bad ideas throughout history. Here's a few examples: New Coke, Speedos, organized religion, lawn darts, political correctness, vegetarians (especially the ones who think they are so much better than I am which, now that I am thinking about it, I bet you are one of them), putting a baseball hat on backwards, Tesla's earthquake machine, anything that begins with "Hey Bubba, watch this...", The XFL, AstroTurf, Caddy Shack 2, Michael Jordan: Baseball player
See, I bet there's been thousands of them. I would add you sending me this message to the list if I was able to address you directly but alas I won't since you have taken the cowards way out and ran away instead of standing your ground and fighting. The very fact makes your argument null and void especially since this is a frigging blog honey cakes and doesn't really matter in the first place. But unlike you, so many woman did stand their ground before you just so you could get your 19Th amendment and because of that you should be ashamed of running away. One more thing before I end this. I gotta joke for you. I hope you like it. Goes like this:
What do you call that useless bunch of skin around a woman's vagina?
The woman.
Have a great life bitch.
Now let me give you all this disclaimer, as most of you know me well enough to know but I still want to put out there. I am not sexist. I think a woman can do as good of a job as a man can do. If not better. I have been surrounded by strong women my entire life. You want your equal rights, you can have them. I am not standing in your way. Now as a way to make everyone feel better I have decided to change the name of my blog but I need your help. I want to get all of my readers involved in this. So I have a few ideas for a new name for the blog and will be posting them soon in one of those neat-o cool polls I used to post for LOST episodes over on the other blog. On the poll you will be able to vote on what YOU think the new name for the blog should be. Can't wait, until then I gotta go have a drink and burn a bra or two.
Poll has been added vote vote vote what is the Blog's new name?
ReplyDeleteFuck that! Don't change the name just cause some woman picked up vag rot and feels the need to take it out on all men.
ReplyDeleteI object to that woman's message to you on facebook because she called herself a concerned woman. Woman is a sexist term. Not only is it a word which places undo emphasis on one particular sex (the female) but it also has the word "man" in it so it obviously should be changed to "woperson". Or, to simplify matters, just call her a concerned cum catcher. Then we ALL know where we stand.
ReplyDeleteAs rabid busybodies seem to have forgotten, this place is a little something called the United States of America where it is (at least at the moment until idiots like her repeal all our rights) still the law of the land to give us freedom of expression and freedom of speech. If I wanted to say all men were worthless pricks who think with their dicks and are basically scum, I can say that -- and I'll bet our "concerned cum catcher" message leaver would be OK with that. If however a person tries to put up a blog with the innocuous name "the manhole cover" which has had no anti-female agenda since it's inception, that's his own goddamn business and certain "concerned cum catchers" ought to be a little more concerned with what this country stands for instead of whining about blog titles while she has nothing better to do than to neglect punctuating with periods and making some man go pay for her dinner and other run-on sentences like that. I too was raised solely by my mother for the first 12 years of my life and was raised to believe EVERYONE is equal regardless of sex or race or shoe size. Therefore I can honestly state that wimmens is just as capable of being huge horse's asses as men are -- and that "concerned cum catcher" is the biggest weeping horse's anus I've come across in a long time. Not to mention as sniveling coward for bitching off and then running to hide.
But since you asked . . .
ReplyDelete. . . I think a nice new name for your blog would be:
"IF JACK THE RIPPER HAD HAD A CHAINSAW WE WOULDN'T BE PUTTING UP WITH THIS SHIT".
How's dat???
