Cockneys vs Zombies (2012)

From the working class area of London's east end comes our next flick Cockneys vs Zombies which is directed by Matthian Hoene (Little Bone Lodge).  Now anything east end related I love.  I used to watch a British soap opera called Eastenders until BBC American felt the need to take it off of American TV.  The Bastards!  If it's cockney I'm usually on board with it.  Think Snatch or Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and you're thinking cockney.  This horror comedy is as advertised a zombie outbreak in London's east end.  Let's talk about a few actors in this cast starting with Alan Ford who has been in both Snatch and LSTSB and is a cockney legend at this point.  Ford plays Ray who lives in a retirement home that is about to be demolished.  In order to help, Ray's two grandsons Terry and Andy, along with their cousin Katy, come up with a plan to rob a bank in order to help their grandfather financially.

Harry Treadaway (Fish Tank and Penny Dreadful) and Rasmus Hardiker (Black Mirror: White Christmas and Thunderbirds Are Go) play Andy and Terry respectively.  Their cousin Katy is played by Michelle Ryan (Eastenders and Dr. Who: Planet of the Dead) and she is without a doubt one of the best parts of the film.  Honor Blackman plays Peggy, another one of the seniors living in the retirement home with Ray.  This is Honor's final film role before her death.  Also along for the ride (quite literally) is Emma (Georgia King) an employee at the bank who the boys take with them when they escape from the bank robbery.

While Ray leads the pensioners through the zombie apocalypse, the brothers and their cousin try to make it to their grandfather and get him to safety.  This one works really well, so much fun.  I mean they had the balls to include a baby zombie in a stroller that is actually treated the way you are supposed to treat a little zombie baby.  By drop kicking the fucker half way across a parking lot!  That's how you treat them!  In my zombie universe this is the same zombie apocalypse that we see break out in Shaun of the Dead.  Shaun of the Dead takes place in London's north end.  In this film we get to see how the zombie invasion was handled by this group.  In fact many people claim this film is what you get if Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Shaun of the Dead had a baby. Lots of good action, some hysterical dialog makes for a very entertaining experience.  I'll give this one three and a half metal plates in the forehead out of five.
