Green Lantern - Guy Gardner

Origin - A little "convoluted" is the best way to describe Guy Gardner and his origins but I will give it my best shot. At the same time an alien named Abin Sur was crash landing on Earth, Guy Gardner was visiting his dying father. Due to the fact that Hal Jordan was physically closer to the spot of the crash, he was to become the next Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814. Years later Guy was informed of this fact and was also told he was back-up to Hal Jordan where if anything was to happen to Hal, he would become Green Lantern. At one point Hal Jordan's power battery blows up in Guy's face and although the result was he was propelled to the Phantom Zone, Hal and others though him dead. While in the zone, Gardner was tortured by General Zod. Upon his escape from the Phantom Zone, Guy was mentally unstable, diagnosed with brain damage, and eventually fell into a coma. Gardner's brain damage manifested itself in the form of an arrogant, violent, unstable, and often childish new personality. Gardner believed himself to be the last "true" Green Lantern, superior to all the others, particularly Jordan. After going through an extreme training regiment by a Guardian of Oa known as "The Old One" Guy was able to get a grip on his mental state and further his training as a back-up Green Lantern. After returning to Earth, some of Guys old ways began to resurface as he battled with Jordan and John Stewart (another back-up Green Lantern). Shortly thereafter Gardner was almost killed by an angered anti-vigilante mob who were being controlled by Glorious Godfrey, an agent of Apokolips working for Darkseid, trying and take over the Earth through mind control. Although most of the other heroes immediately forgave those who had fought against them, Gardner insisted that the mind control could not have taken root if there wasn't an already deep-seated distrust for their kind. The heroes present that day decided to band together as a new team to fight for justice. As the previous Justice League had recently been disbanded, they would go on to form a new incarnation of the Justice League eventually turning into the Justice League International. Guy formed a romantic relationships with fellow JLI member Ice who was later killed by the Overmaster. After a fight with Batman, Guy left the JLI and was eventually forced to give up his power ring to Hal Jordan. After going to Oa to look for the yellow power ring of Sinestro, Guy inadvertently led a group of invaders to Oa. After getting to yellow power ring Guy practically single-handed turned back the invasion. Many different changes (all too numerous to list) in character, personality, and even name later, Guy thought himself to be a member of an alien race called the Vuldarians. The Vuldarian powers that had awoken in him led him to be able to turn himself into various weapons including various guns as well as bombs. His Vuldarian powers would be removed when he was possessed by the Parallax entity. He was given back a Green Lantern ring and although their relationship had previously been antagonistic, Guy is now regularly friends with his fellow Lanterns, albeit still in his own gruff style. Guy would become a trainer to recruits in the Green Lantern Corps. It was the Corps responsibility to act as a backup to their own sectors Green Lantern as well as train rookies who would be assigned to sectors after they completed their training. Impressive as a trainer and leader, Guy was eventually made leader of the Green Lantern Corps Honor Guard. The Honor Guard is another branch of the Corps but they are not restricted to one sector. Their main focus is one of canvasing the entire DC Universe as backup Lanterns as well as going on special ops missions. Guy eventually moves his home to Oa and builds a place for Lanterns to gather and eat other than the Corpse cafeteria. He calls the restaurant Warriors named after a bar he once had on Earth. In an attempt to reignite the relationship he had with Ice he returns home to Earth to give it another try. Things don't work out but he decides to stay on Earth until he is called away during the events of Blackest Night, Brightest Day, and the culminating War of the Green Lanterns. Guy Gardner is an immensely complex character with several different sides to his personality. Multiple interpretations of the character have seen a number of portrayals, and he has also shown development over the years.

Powers and Abilities - Possessing and indomitable will, something needed to wield a Green Lantern power ring it has led to his mastery of the rings power. The constructs he is able to make with the ring are amongst the most powerful. Guy is eager to "ring sling", and possesses so much raw will power, his ring is often sparking like a leaky water faucet about to explode. While using constructs created by the ring Guy is effectively able to lift/move tremendous weights far heavier than 100 tons with little effort. Without the ring Guy possesses the strength of a man his age, height and build who engages in regular exercise making him capable of press lifting at least his own weight.

Weaknesses and Abilities - The Green Lantern rings are imbued with a weakness to anything yellow (a representative of fear and the emotional opposite of will) and therefore do not work against it. Guy has a newly created power ring that is a combination of the Ring of Qward (the yellow ring worn by Sinestro) and a green power ring that the weakness to yellow was removed when he was possessed by Parallax. It is therefore assumed, although not yet officially proven, that his ring is indeed immune to the yellow weakness all other green power rings have.
