Red Tornado

Origin - A tornado entity that formed on the planet Rann decided that it was better to be heroic than villainous after is was defeated by Adam Strange. Soon, the entity split into two forms; a heroic Tornado Champion and a villain Tornado Tyrant. After being beaten by the Tornado Tyrant the Tornado Champion lured the Tyrant to Earth where it was defeated by the Justice League. The Tornado Champion eventually met the criminal T. O. Morrow who was creating an android he was to use in order to infiltrate and defeat the Justice Society of America. The Tornado Champion decided to assume control of the robotic form. The merging had an unexpected side effect, however: the Tornado Champion's memory was erased. Red Tornado then seemed to be a new life-form. After having fought along side of both the JLA and the JSA against Morrow he was allowed to join the JSA as a member in good standing even though they knew he was created by Morrow to destroy them. Red Tornado always seemed to be an outsider of the group and eventually left the JSA and met and was accepted into the JLA where he seemed to fit in better. Tornado's adventures with the League caused him to repeatedly be destroyed. While a member of the Justice League, the Red Tornado developed a human alter ego appearance, that of John Smith, and formed an attachment with a woman named Kathy Sutton. In addition, he adopted an orphan from the middle eastern nation of Bialya named Traya, and they formed a makeshift family. He formed friendships with his teammates, particularly new recruit Firestorm. After the first Crisis, the Red Tornado/Tornado Champion retained his air elemental status, and became the personification of a force of nature along with Swamp Thing (as an earth elemental) and Firestorm (as a fire elemental). The Red Tornado, like the Swamp Thing, used his new found responsibilities to act as a protector and advocate of nature. It was also discovered that Red Tornado was indeed a sentient being and not just an android as originally thought. He served as an adviser for Young Justice, and as an auxiliary member of the JLA. Many times more he has been destroyed and fixed. He has seemed to malfunction as his android body seems to act as a malfunctioning robot would. There has also been instances where his sentient mind has seemed to be loosing a grip on reality and not acting normal. Following his destruction in Blackest Night, he was upgraded and given a new body composed of microscopic nanites. According to Cyborg, the body features synthetic organs and nerves, thus giving him a working replica of the human body. In addition, the nanites grant Tornado the ability to change from his android form to his human "John Smith" person simply by willing it.

Powers and Abilities - Red Tornado's true form was a powerful entity composed purely of violent wind forces. His android form channeled these forces through his arms and legs to produce bursts of cyclone-force winds and high speed velocity. He can project his whirlwinds at over 350mph from each arm. His winds are said to level a building in seconds. By channeling these cyclone-force winds through the lower part of his body, he can fly at incredible speeds or hover in place. On occasion, Red Tornado has used his high-velocity movement to render himself invisible to unaided human vision. He is able to circulate the high force winds around himself or an extended area to protect himself and others from attacks and flying debris he is also able to deflect approaching objects with ease. After death, "Reddy's" soul is able to return to his robot shell within 24 hours as long as his body is able to function. He possesses superhuman strength and invulnerability. His body has a self-repair function which enables him to fully repair himself given enough time depending on how damaged he has become. As a robot he doesn't require food, water, air, or sleep but has his own power supply to keep him alive and functioning. As an android he must regenerate and restore his power. As a robot with a computerized brain, he retains a "photographic memory". In addition he is able to run full diagnostic scans to see what is going on inside his body. Able to download specs of different buildings and use them for tactical purposes. To his knowledge, his computerized brain has a few hundred million terabytes of memory.

Weaknesses and Limitations - Their is a fail-safe device in RT's neck. When struck there with enough force he will shut down. Red Tornado may have an extremely resilient body, but it is in no way invulnerable. He has been broken many times before, and can no doubt be broken again. Red Tornado is susceptible to being mechanically reprogrammed as well as controlled. Numerous times he has been altered in order to destroy the JSA or the JLA.
