Deadfall Trail (2009)

Deadfall Trail is a guys go in the woods to camp and shit goes wrong and really hits the fan type of story.  All the men take with them is a bottle of water, a knife, and some trash bags.  Oh, and some peyote.  Their goal is to live off the forest for three weeks.  See, it’s gotta be three weeks because that way nobody is missing them which allows this to really drag out.  This all seems familiar as a year or two ago I watched a film featuring Hal Holbrook that is nearly the same film.  That film, Rituals, is from 1977 and it’s better than this and I only gave that two and a half stars.  Here’s another clue that what this film offers is less than stellar: actors who are only in this film for about two minutes of screen time get top billing.  Yeah, the three guys who are the main cast members are the third, fifth and sixth name on the cast list.

But guess who shows up eventually?  Richard Anderson.  Now some of us old heads will know he is Oscar Goldman from The Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman TV shows from the 1970’s.  As for the rest of you, he’s just some old guy who shows up at the end of the movie for one scene as a member of the search part looking for the three morons.  There’s not much of a story here other than what I already said.  A lot of things happen off screen, or the picture crashed to black just as something is about to happen then we just see the aftermath.  I didn’t pay attention enough to understand the ending fully, but I can’t help feeling these idiots got what they deserved.  One vision quest out of five, this would make Hal Holbrook roll over in his grave.  Hal Holbrook is dead, right?
