Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)

There’s plenty of games that are like Bodies Bodies Bodies or at least in the same family.  There’s Werewolf at Midnight which is the same game as Mafia which is basically the same game as the one played here.  But before they play the game let’s talk about the players that help put together the film.  First, the film is directed by Halina Reijn who has also directed Instinct and Babygirl, this being her first attempt at comedy horror.  Starring is Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and The Apprentice) and Amandia Stenberg (The Hate U Give and Dear Evan Hansen) as girlfriends Bee and Sophie who are going to a hurricane party.  Whatever the hell that is.  Bee is a working-class girl from Eastern Europe while Sophie is a rich girl who is a recovering addict.  The party is being held at a house belonging to Sophie’s friend David.  David is played by Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson.

Other party guests include Jordan portrayed by Myha’la (Leave the World Behind and Dumb Money), Rachel Sennet (Bottoms and Shiva Baby) is Alice, Chase Sui Wonders (Daniel Isn’t Real and Generation) is Emma, David’s girlfriend, and Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy and The Fall) as Greg who is Alice’s much older boyfriend.  After the group does some drinking, drugs, and dancing they decide to play the murder mystery game where everybody plays a character with one of them being a killer.  Every time the lights go out someone is “killed”, and it is up to the rest of the group to figure out who the killer is.  It doesn’t go well with David and Greg arguing which ends up with both quitting the game.  That’s just the beginning though as the shit really hits the fan when one of them is killed for real for real.

Sorry, I shouldn’t have said for real for real and now I hate myself and I’m embarrassed.  Everyone has suspicions of who the killer is and not everyone is telling the truth.  What starts as a small turd in the punch bowl ends up being a shit storm of trouble.  Who would have thought that a hurricane rolling over them wouldn’t be the most dangerous thing to happen?  Bodies cubed is a little bit of a letdown to me since it’s not really all that funny for a horror comedy and it’s not all that horrorish either.  There is a nice twist at the end that almost saves it but I’m still only giving it three kettlebells out of five, with an asterisk because I really want to give it two and three quarters, but you know the deal.  No quarter stars allowed.  As we near the middle of the month, I hope your Halloween season is well on its way to being a spooky good time.

    1. Yes they were Joe every one of them. Not much to root for. Probably gave this a better grade than it deserves.
