From Dusk Til Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999)

From Dusk Til Dawn 2 is director Scott Spiegel’s second foray into the horror genre.  His first full length horror film is Intruder from 1989 which I really enjoyed.  Spiegel also co-wrote the script here just like he did for Evil Dead 2.  The co-writer of the script is Duane Whitaker who also stars as Luther, a recently escaped convict who tries to get in touch with his old crew to plan another bank robbery.  Robert Patrick plays Buck, one of Luther’s partners as well as Muse Watson who is C.W., Brett Harrelson is Ray Bob, and Raymond Cruze stars as Jesus.  The sheriff in charge of catching the group, Otis, is played by Bo Hopkins.  Unlike the original FDTD, this movie is heavier on the heist and the chase than it is about the vampires.  Oh, they are there but just not as many, especially early in the film.  Danny Trejo is back as Razor Eddie, the brother of the bar tender from the first film Razor Charlie.

One by one members of the group are turned into vampires after Luther hits a bat with his car.  Danny Trejo is the only cast member from the first one that I noticed.  Titty Twister is in the movie for a couple of scenes as that’s where Luther goes looking for help after he hits the bat.  There are brief cameos from Bruce Campbell and Tiffani Thiessen.  This is mostly just a sequel in name only.  Drop the few scenes with Trejo and Luther at The Titty Twister and this can stand on its own but they tried to cash in on the name recognition of the original, I get that.  The views from inside the vampires’ mouth are not done well and should have been removed from the film.  They look so cheesy and stupid it lowers the films score immediately when I saw it being done.  Most effects are outdated before the film was made.  Some of it looks like 70’s and 80’s era effects.  So bad compared to the original.  Two brothers of Woody Harrelson out of 5.
