3/18 - The Law of Sacrifice 3/21 - The Inheritance

3/18 - The Law of Sacrifice

Another day closer to Halloween and I'll give a little report on two more episodes of Grimm.  First up is episode eighteen of the third season titled The Law of Sacrifice.  On the heels of Synchronicity (that I talked about yesterday) Viktor, the head of the Verrat as well as the Royal Family learns that Adalind is in Portland with her baby.  He calls FBI agent Weston Steward (C. Thomas Howell) and tells him to find them.  Steward is also told that the Royals are coming to Portland to get back the baby.  Steward keeps a close eye on Adalind, Renard, and the baby.  Kelly Burkhardt notices him and begins to follow him.  She is surprised to find out he is working for the Verrat, an FBI agent, as well as being a Hundjager.  She confronts him outside of Sean Renard's condo and knocks him out.  Meanwhile Nick gets to the condo as well and warns Adalind and Sean that the Verrat are coming for the baby and he leaves.  Sean and Adalind agree that they have to leave the condo.  Adalind, Renard, baby Diana, and Kelly all go to Munroe and Rosalee's house to hide out.  Things are tense between Kelly and Renard as he tried to kill her sister.  He says if he knew now what he didn't know then he wouldn't have been so hostile.

Later that night the baby won't stop crying.  As Rosalee notices the baby has a fever all the clocks in the house go crazy and the baby cries even louder.  She calms down pretty quickly and when she does the clocks go back to normal.  Everyone is starting to realize baby Diana has special powers.  Kelly, Renard, and Nick go to Weston's house and question him about the Royals.  Weston tells them the Royals are coming to Portland for the baby.  Nick tells Weston he is to give the Royals fake information when they arrive and if he doesn't it won't end well for him.  Weston goes to the airport to greet Viktor and friends.  Nearby Hank is taking pictures of the meeting.  Weston tips off Viktor about Nick wanting him to give them false info.  Viktor and Weston get into a limo with the rest of Viktor's entourage and drive off.  In a surprising move Viktor shows up at the precinct to talk to Renard and gives Renard an ultimatum.  Viktor wants the baby or he will kill Sean, Adalind, and Sean's mother.  Viktor leaves and suddenly, Renard has Kelly arrested for the murder of Adalind's mother.  Renard calls Adalind and tells her to come to the precinct with Diana, he has some information she will be happy to learn.

When Adalind gets to the precinct he takes her back to see Kelly.  Sean takes the baby and tells Adalind that the two of them have a lot to discuss and he leaves them alone.  Kelly tells Adalind that she killed her mother.  After a short discussion Adalind asks Kelly why she is telling her all this.  Kelly tells her that she had to give Nick up when he was a boy and although it hurt her she knew it was best for Nick.  She tells Adalind that "sometimes we have to sacrifice what we love most".  Adalind realizes she has been tricked and runs out looking for Renard.  She sees Renard coming back into the precinct empty handed.  She confronts him and he tells her he gave the baby to Viktor and they took off in a limo.  Adalind runs out to the street and when she realizes the limo is gone she woges and screams/roars and as she does so she breaks all the windows in all the cars that line the street.

As Viktor get to the airport Diana shows him some of her powers as he looks at the locket the baby has.  Diana, with her eyes glowing purple, slams the locket shut.  Getting out of the limo and heading to the plane they are stopped at gun point by a group of masked people speaking German.  They identify themselves as The Resistance and tell him they want the baby.  With no other choice, Viktor hands over the baby.  The group then get into Viktor's limo and take off.  As soon as they leave the scene, they all laugh and take off their masks revealing themselves to be Nick, Kelly, Renard, Hank, and Munroe.  Kelly asks Renard if he understands that "all of this has to be done".  Renard says he does.  The next day Kelly leaves in a rented truck with Diana.  Diana begins to make her set of keys float in the air.  Kelly smiles and comments that she will have to teach her not to do that in public.  The opening quote was "The Queen was terrified and offered the little man all the riches of the kingdom if only he would leave the newborn child alone." which is a clear reference to baby Diana and everyone trying to keep her safe.  Viktor, being the little man here is being compared to Rumpelstiltskin.  Not sure if the Queen that is referenced refers to Adalind or Kelly.

      3/21 - The Inheritance

A few episodes before this one, Grimm introduced a new character, a young woman in her early twenties named Theresa Rubel.  Or Trubel (Trouble) for short.  It was quickly revealed she was a Grimm who has just recently started to develop her powers.  Since coming to Portland she has been living with Nick and Juliette with Nick acting as a mentor.  Meanwhile another man has come to town with his son.  The older man Rolek Porter (Sam Anderson who also played Bernard on LOST) is yet another Grimm although he is at the end of his life.  Rolek tries to tell his son about his powers and what he is.  He tries to explain what Wesen are and his son just thinks it is a symptom of the old man's disease worsening.  Rolek has asked his son Josh to find Nick so he may give him all his Grimm possessions.  Several attempts are made on Rolek and Josh's life by members of the Verrat sent by Weston Steward.

Josh goes to Nick's home but only finds Trubel.  He tells her about his father and shows Trubel a picture his father drew of a Hunjager to show proof that Rolek is a Grimm.  Trubel tells Josh to take her to his father.  Josh takes her to the abandoned building where they are hiding and Rolek shows Trubel his stash of Grimm tools.  His son Josh is not a Grimm and does not understand how important all of his things are.  Rolek collapses and they take him to the hospital.  At the hospital Steward calls Josh and tells him he is a detective assigned to investigate the Verrat that have been after Josh and his father.  He tells Steward they are at the hospital.  From the hospital Trubel calls Nick and gives him all the info about Rolek.  When Nick gets to the hospital Rolek tells Nick that he also has a mysterious key like one Nick found in his Aunt Marie's trailer. Before Rolek can tell Nick where the key is he collapses.  Josh tells Nick about the "detective" he spoke to and Nick says there isn't a detective in the Portland PD with that name so he assumes someone is coming after them.

After a short fight in the parking lot with more Verrat, Josh tells Nick that Rolek didn't make it.  Back at Nick's house Nick, Juliette, Trubel, Hank, and Josh go through Rolek's things but still cannot find the key he spoke about.  Josh thinks it might have been in his father's possessions he had with him in the hospital.  Hidden in the handle of his cane they find the key.  They all go to The Spice Shop where Nick has hidden his key.  Nick takes the two keys and when pressed together into ink and then onto paper Munroe realizes that the keys are forming a map of the Black Forest.  Now, while all this is going on Renard known Adalind is up to something.  She has an unexplained wound on her hand which is never a good sign when dealing with a Hexenbiest.  A little later she goes to Nick and Juliette's house and goes in after making sure the house is empty.  Inside, she goes to the bedroom and takes hair from Juliette's brush.  As she is doing this Renard surprises her and now he really knows she is up to something.  She manages to knock him out and then leaves.  Adalind then proceeds to a storage unit, there she has a cauldron in which she is making a potion.  She places the hair from the hair brush into the cauldron and a vapor begins to come out of the cauldron.  Adalind takes a witch's hat and places it over the cauldron making the vapor come out of the top of the hat.  She inhales the vapor three times which causes her to transform into Juliette.  After a few attempts, Adalind also is able to speak in Juliette's voice.  The quote for this episode was "'No', said the King, 'I had rather die than place you in great danger as you must meet on your journey.'".  This is a quote from a little known Grimm Fairy Tale titled The Water of Life.  The story begins with a dying King telling his son he doesn't want the same life for him as the one the King has led.  Nice correlation to Rolek and Josh.
