When we talk about horror sub genres the horror anthology is my favorite of them all. The ABC's of Death is just such a film. 26 letters, 26 short tales, from 26 different directors. With that in mind I won't be listing all the actors or all the directors except for maybe a few. So each tale represents a different letter of the alphabet. For instance the first one is titled A is for Apocalypse. The second story is titled B is for Bigfoot. You get the idea. While none of them are terrible, the problem is most of them are just OK. There is, of course, a few exceptions where the stories are the stand out good'ens. So let's jump in and talk about a few of them.
First up is a tale from Japan titled F is for Fart. Alright, my kind of story already. A student is obsessed with her teacher. One day a deadly gas breaks out of the ground and kills anyone who breathes it in. The student and the teacher make it to a building where they are safe from the gas. The student tells the teacher she would rather smell her teachers farts than the gas outside. The teacher then farts in the students face and she is transported to some weird gas world. Once there the student and the teacher share a romantic kiss. The best part of the short is when the student yells "That black gas was a fart from the ass of god!". You can't argue with that!
The final story I wanted to mention is Z is for Zetsumetsu which means Extinction in Japanese. So we go back to Japan where we meet a man named Dr. Strangeluv who is being bombarded with images showing him aspects of American culture that could benefit Japan. There's naked people wearing hats with bombs on them called "Little Boys". A topless woman in a Nazi uniform with a giant penis. Dr. Straneluv stands up and shouts "My Emperor it is standing!". What he means is his penis is rising and eventually it too reaches climax only we get rice cum. Man, these Asians have the weird crap down! The entire film although over two hours (there are about 10 minutes of ending credits so it's really less than two hours) none of the stories overstay their welcome. If a few more were in the great or at least very good realm this would get a higher rating but as it is I will give this a very average two and a half talking parrots out of five.
I was not a fan of this. Nothing pulled me enough for a rewatch.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am more inclined to give horror anthologies a higher score than actually deserved so this could easily be two out of five.
