6/3 - Oh Captain, My Captain
Welcome to the sixth and final season of Grimm. Before the end of season five the creators of Grimm said season six would be the final season because, according to them, they ran out of ideas. Not only was this to be the final season it was really just half of a season. Season six features just thirteen episodes instead of twenty two like every other season. Nine less episodes in the final season? They really must have been out of ideas! So with that in mind let's begin to dissect the final season of Grimm. When we last spoke Nick had just survived the attack of Black Claw and Bonaparte with Renard's help. Actually with Diana's help. Renard still has a city wide search for Nick with a shoot to kill order if he resists. Nick is hiding at The Spice Shop but can't stay there long. Nick is still carrying "the stick" and goes to put it away and pauses. Eve asks him if there's anything wrong and he tells her he feels like he "needs" the stick now. At the precinct Renard demands Hank and Wu's resignation letters which they give him begrudgingly.
Nick comes up with the idea to use a spell on him to make him look like Renard. Similarly to the spell that made Adalind look like Juliette. Eve tells Nick they will need some of Renard's hair so he calls Adalind to tell her. He tells her he will send Munroe over to pick it up. After Munroe gets the hair, Eve makes the potion. Rosalee comments that she is worried about the effects this will have on a Grimm. Nick inhales the vapor through a witch's hat three times. Nick falls to the ground in pain as he begins to change. The transformation to Renard only takes a few seconds and when he is fully transformed into Renard he is in a woged state. Nick asks how to get rid of it and they all tell him he just needs to relax which he does and the woge retracts. While Nick is trying to get Renard's body language and voice down Hank shows up. Nick confronts him as Renard saying he still wants his resignation. After a short argument Hank realizes that it's really Nick and not Renard and marvels about how alike they are.
Renard and Adalind are at the Black Claw mansion discussing Diana's education as the 7:00 news begins. Renard is shocked to hear his voice coming from the TV. Nick as Renard announces he is abdicating the mayoral position to fully focus on the deaths at the north precinct. Nick also says the recent manhunt for Detective Burkhardt was really an undercover investigation staged to bring the real killer to justice. Renard leaves in an angry rage and tells Adalind is he finds out she had anything to do with this she will be sorry. Adalind texts Hank to let him know Renard is on the way there. Reporters flood the precinct and Nick feels like he is changing back. Nick is finally able to get away from the reporters and gets to the parking garage where Renard is waiting for him. Nick, Hank, and Wu eventually leave with the real Renard left to face more reporters. They also managed to get away with Renard's computer from his office as well. They head back to The Spice Shop.
Back at the precinct Renard finally gets to his office only to discover his computer missing as well as his briefcase. While back at the shop Wu goes through Renard's things. Nick, still having problems turning back to himself, asks what is wrong. Rosalee thinks it has something to do with him being a Grimm. The effects take longer to wear off. Or maybe they never will? Renard calls Nick and demands they talk face to face. Nick tells him to come to the loft roof. Nick then tells Hank and Wu to get Adalind and the kids and bring them to the shop. Up on the loft roof the two Renard's fight. The real Renard sees Nick's Renard woge and it causes Sean to pause for a second. The fight continues for a few more minutes before they both realize it is getting them nowhere. Nick and Renard agree on terms to ending their battle. Nick gets to bring Adalind and Kelly back to the loft. Renard will keep Diana. Nick, Hank, and Wu all get their jobs back.
Back at the shop, Adalind looks over the spell they did on Nick and says it looks like they did everything right. She says Nick might be stuck that way. Nick comes in and tells everyone about the deal he made with Renard. Diana walks in and after she realizes Nick isn't Renard she throws him into the wall with her mind and screams "You're not my Daddy!". Adalind explains what happened to Nick and suddenly he reverts back to himself. Meanwhile Sean is walking around his room and hears someone there with him. Renard is shocked to see Meisner there. Meisner says "You chose the wrong side, Sean.". The title of this episode is a nod to Walt Whitman's 1985 poem about the death of Abraham Lincoln. This episode was the directorial debut of David Giuntoli. The quote for this episode is "You will face yourself again in a moment of terror.", is taken from the novel For Two Thousand Years by Mihail Sebastian. In the novel a young man feels he is in a world he doesn't belong in or possibly no longer has a place in. Other that the obvious "face yourself" reference we also find Renard in a spot where there is no longer room for him which now includes the mayors office.
6/7 - Blind Love
It is Munroe's birthday weekend and love is in the air. Too bad that love isn't the love we are used to. Munroe expresses his love for Eve, Nick tells Rosalee he loves her, Adalind is in love with Munroe, and Eve professes her love for Nick. HUH?
At the loft, Eve gets out of the shower and wipes off the bathroom mirror. A portal begins to open in the mirror. Eve calls for Nick as the portal grows bigger. From the portal lightening flashes and thunder rumbles. A green eyed skull begins to emerge from the mirror and looks at Eve. Nick comes into the bathroom and is stunned by what he sees. The skull looks at Nick before it retracts back into the mirror. They agree not to tell anyone about this until they know more about it. Later, Nick, Adalind, Hank, Wu, and Eve meet Rosalee and Munroe at a place called The Columbia Gorge Hotel which turns out is a real place in Oregon. Apparently it's beautiful there as well. One of the employees of the hotel, Randy, calls his mother and tells her that Nick has shown up at the hotel. He gets a call from his father who is in prison thanks to Nick. Randy tells his father he will get revenge for him as he is making the Amor de Infierno potion. His father tells him he should double it. Randy says he already had plans to triple it! Randy goes to everyone's rooms and gathers a hair from each of them and puts them each in a numbered plastic bag.
Renard gets a text and a picture of Diana. The kidnapper, a police officer named Grossante, demands Renard makes him the police captain or he will kill Diana. Grossante then calls Renard and tells him the same thing and if he doesn't do it Diana will die. Diana wakes up and tells Grossante she wants to go home. Grossante woges and tells her she isn't going anywhere. Diana's eyes woge and she throws Grossante against a wall. She then telekinetically begins to throw him back and forth between two walls. Grossante calls Renard and begs him to come and get Diana. Renard tells him he will be there eventually. Diana comes into the room and tells Grossante that this isn't a very good hiding spot. She throws him across the room again. Renard listens to all this going on over the phone. Later Renard goes to get Diana. Badly injured, Grossante slides across the floor. Diana asks Renard is she can have another play date with Grossante sometime in the future. Renard say she can as he leaves with his daughter. After they leave Grossante sobs.
